Frequenty Asked Questions
Building a custom home is a big decision. We’re here to make it easier.
-
A true custom home takes time, and every project is different. In general, custom homes can take 12 to 18 months depending on the size of the home, land conditions, design details, material availability, permitting, weather, and the number of decisions that need to be made along the way.
We are not the fastest builder, and we are not trying to be. Our focus is on building your home the right way, with the level of care, communication, and craftsmanship a high-end custom home deserves.
-
Best Custom Homes blends high-end craftsmanship with a genuinely down-to-earth building experience. We care deeply about how your home is built, not just how it looks when it is finished.
Our team focuses on transparency, quality, communication, and long-term durability. We believe in building homes to last, being upfront from day one, and creating a process that feels organized, honest, and enjoyable.
-
Yes. Our homes are 100% client-driven. You are not choosing from a set of pre-designed plans or being pushed into a cookie-cutter process.
If you can design it, we can help bring it to life. Our role is to partner with you, your architect, designer, and trade professionals to build a home that reflects your vision, lifestyle, and long-term goals.
-
To prepare a complete and transparent bid, we typically need complete and to-scale plans, an electrical or lighting plan, exterior feature details such as decking or concrete flatwork, completed specifications, design plans for areas like kitchens and bathrooms, and financing information such as a bank pre-approval letter or proof of funds if self-financing.
This helps us create a more accurate bid based on real information instead of assumptions.
-
We believe in being transparent with homeowners from the beginning. Instead of throwing out a quick number based on rough estimates, we gather real quotes from subcontractors and vendors so we can provide a more accurate overall cost.
This process may take longer upfront, but it helps reduce surprises later and gives you a clearer understanding of what it will take to build your home.
-
No. Transparency is one of the core values of Best Custom Homes. We believe you should understand where your money is going and what your project costs.
Throughout the process, clients receive detailed information about receipts, invoices, expenses, selections, and project costs so they can make informed decisions with confidence.
-
Communication is a major part of the Best Custom Homes process. You will have a dedicated Project Manager, but our team is also available to answer questions throughout the build.
We use Buildertrend to help keep communication, scheduling, documents, selections, change orders, daily logs, and project updates organized in one place. This gives you a clear view of what is happening with your home throughout the process.
-
Buildertrend is the online project management platform we use to help keep your build organized. Through your client portal, you can track project updates, review schedules, view documents, approve selections and change orders, communicate with our team, and stay connected to the progress of your home.
It helps keep everything in one place so the process feels more organized and transparent.
-
A custom home is a collaborative process, so your involvement matters. The best projects happen when clients are engaged, responsive, and able to make decisions along the way.
You do not need to manage the build. That is our job. But your input, selections, and approvals help keep the project moving forward and ensure the finished home reflects what you truly want.
-
Changes can happen during a custom build. When they do, we document them through the proper change order process so everyone understands the cost, scope, and approval before moving forward.
Our goal is to keep changes clear, organized, and transparent so there is no confusion about what changed, why it changed, or how it affects the budget.
-
We help manage the selection and approval process, but we do not replace the role of an interior designer or other design professionals. We work alongside your architect, designer, vendors, and subcontractors to help coordinate selections and keep the build moving forward.
Final selections are documented and approved so your project stays organized and everyone is working from the same information.

Yes. We often partner with architects, designers, real estate professionals, vendors, and subcontractors to create the right team for each project.
A successful custom home takes collaboration, and we believe the best results come from having the right people involved early in the process.

Best Custom Homes stands behind its work. Based on the current materials, custom homes include a 10-year structural warranty and a 1-year warranty for everything else. The prospective client materials also reference warranty support for defects in workmanship or material failures.
This section should be reviewed against your final contract language before publishing so the website matches the exact warranty terms you want clients to rely on.
